Normandy Horse Council’s (Southern France) International Development Officer Anne Jumacourt is visiting Adelaide this Saturday. If you, your business or organisation is interested in sporting exchanges, equestrian tourism, stud tours, breeding, research, education, the Selle Francais breed or developing other ideas, contact Horse SA. All sectors, including Thoroughbred racing, French Trotters, Polo, Warmblood sports horse riders & breeders, draught horses, pony sports etc. are engaged, as outlined in the ‘Normandy, Invest in Excellence’ promotional video.  Also, to note that Paris has been awarded the 2024 Summer Olympics, and the SA Government has also recently established an office in the city.

Next week, Equiculture’s Jane Myers (UK) visits Adelaide to run an Equicentral Managing Horses on Small Properties workshop over two evenings at Woodside, including the taster ‘Your Confidence, Position, Balance & Body’ as part of The Horse Rider’s Mechanic series. This will be the last visit to Australia for some time from Jane & Stuart Myers, so make the most of this opportunity.

Later in the month, we are privileged to have Dr. Nicolas de Brauwere, Chair of the National Equine Welfare Council (UK) and Head of Welfare and Behaviour at the UK’s largest horse sanctuary Redwings, visit Adelaide. In 2015 it was very insightful to visit Redwings, to learn about their community education programs, witness the application of evidenced-based equitation science principles for all horse training and find out more about the practicalities of managing quarantine on a horse property. To also learn of national collaborations including the National Equine Welfare Compendium and the Equine Sector Council for Health & Welfare, all of which will be discussed in presentations at the University of Adelaide, Roseworthy 7pm, 29 Nov and 10.30am 30 Nov. Dr de Brauwere is chairing workshops at the International Equitation Science Conference, NSW, and after Adelaide, speaks at an event at Mornington Racecourse, Victoria. These events are applicable for all types of horse owners, government, organisation and industry leaders.

In conclusion, a big horse industry week with WINX levelling with the mighty Kingston Town, winning the Ladbrokes Cox Plate for the third time, a successful celebration of harness racing at Wayville and today, 100 years since the Charge of the 4th Light Horse Brigade at Beersheba.  Also, a special thank you to the British Animal Rescue & Trauma Care Association, the University of California for hosting during last weeks’ ‘Incidents involving Animals’ Conference.

Happy Riding!
