Disruptive technologies provide new ways for people to promote and contribute to democratic processes as individuals. Two examples include the participatory budget program ‘Fund My Neighbourhood’, where at least 10 projects which benefit horse owners are listed. Voting closes 5pm Monday, and a  survey put out by the NSW Government looking if horse identification & traceability should be introduced. All horse owners, from any state, are invited to contribute, as further along in the survey it asks for views on national databases. Closing date extended to 31st Dec.

Next week the International Equitation Science conference comes to Australia, and  Horse SA is attending. Following the event, one of the conference presenters, Dr Nic de Brauwere of Redwings Horse Sanctuary and the National Equine Welfare Council (NEWC) UK, will be doing two talks in SA. Having visited Redwings just over 2 years ago, the organisation is unlike anything currently in Australia, running several properties, a full veterinary hospital, a large horse behaviour program and importantly, a community education and outreach program on topics such as strangles. You can find both of Dr Nic’s events listed here. All horse owners and horse organisation leaders are invited, it is not just the ‘rescue’ focus but through the NEWC approach, looking at greater collaboration between every type of horse organisation going forward to deal with modern issues.

In closing, enjoy the Mitsubishi Motors Australian International 3de Event this weekend and good luck to all riders. #GillRidesWithUs

You can find the Tom Roberts ‘Go forward, dear’ book at the Empowerment4Riders or Equitrek stand or order online, where gift vouchers are also available. The header photo is Mrs Anne Jumacourt of the Normandy Horse Council, who visited SA recently as part of a larger French Trade Tour.

Happy Riding!
