Thank you to all individuals and clubs who have recently donated to the work of Horse SA. However small – it is all greatly appreciated. THANK YOU again!

This week, Dr Nic de Brauwere, Head of veterinary and behaviour at Redwings Horse Sanctuary and Chair, National Equine Welfare Council (UK), gave two talks. The first on Redwings, which has over 1500 horses in daily care on several dedicated properties cared for by 300 staff including a full veterinary team.  500 more are out in foster care.  Redwings is fully supported by public donations of over 10 million pounds per year.

The second talk was about what it means to take an animal from ‘horse rescue’ situation through to one of ‘horse welfare’.  Regardless of if one or one hundred horses in care, a professional approach, clear focus and good business practices are required, so that leadership, information and education is provided through rescue groups for all horse owners. If this is not occurring, then perhaps a second look to ensure that the same problem is not being moved around in another form.

Thank you to all who have attended smaller events including Landcare in Clare, Bushfire Planning for Horse Owners in Echunga (Wow! 52 attended!), webinars and more. Many of these events are linked to the work Horse SA does via interfacing with government agencies to keep horses and horse riding happening in our community.

With conferences, events and project delivery compacted tightly into the past 6 weeks, reports will be put online at www.horsesa.asn.au, on Facebook and linked in upcoming e-news as they become available.

If you voted in Fund My Neighbourhood, also thank you! Unfortunately not enough votes received for any of the 10 horse projects in SA. However, be prepared- there is another round coming soon!
