Club and business development
Horse SA supports the ongoing sustainability of clubs and businesses through educational events, networking and information sharing.
Themes covered during the year include better business practices, equine law, child-safe environments, workplace safety, marketing, volunteer management and technologies. Refer to the Horse SA event page for future educational sessions, which are held face to face and online. The Adelaide Hills Business Centre, which is a base for Horse SA, provides a range of services, including business coaching, IT and non-profit management advice.
Working with Children
It is a legal requirement that people need a working with children check if they are in a ‘prescribed position’. This means people who:
-
are in paid or volunteering roles where it is reasonably foreseeable that they will work with children
-
run or manage a business where the employees or volunteers work with children
-
are employed to provide preschool, primary or secondary education to a child.
Visit this website for general information, or if a club, contact the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing.
Educational resources
For Horse SA business members, there is help to meet your Child Safe Environment legal requirements with resources developed with Horse SA by the Department for Human Services. These FREE resources have a focus for coaching or tuition services for children (e.g. a horse-riding instructor) OR commercial services provided directly to children, including:
a) the sale or supply of goods or services where physical contact with children
would reasonably be expected to occur (e.g. pony rides)
b) recreational services where contact with children would be reasonably
expected to occur (trail rides), and
c) entertainment services provided at children parties or events (e.g. parties)
The SA Gov has asked that the FREE resources are only made available to Horse SA members as they are tailored. Email horsesa@horsesa.asn.au stating which Horse SA member business represented for a link to a Google Drive folder containing:
1) Explainer recorded PowerPoint with voice over
2) Fact Sheet: Sole trader
3) Template: Sole trader child safe policy
